Diomedes – Doukas 25-30: In the final of the cup, the teams of the schools
Doukas beat Diomedes Argos 30-25 in extra time to reach the cup final for the eleventh time in its history.
Doukas Sports Association was the big winner of the 1st semi-final in the Men’s Lux Cup Final Four, managing to beat Diomedes Argos 30-25 in overtime.
Doukas will be competing in the Institution’s Finals for the 11th time in his history, having won 4 trophies in his 10th appearance at the Final Four (1998, 1999, 2008, 2010).
His opponent will be the winner of the 2nd semi-final between Olympiacos SF/Omilo Xini and AEK (19:15-ERT3). Leaders for ASED were Tziras, Yantsa and Payatis, who scored nearly 2/3 (19 goals out of 30) of their team’s goals.
Tsigaridas was top scorer for the Wolves with 8 goals.
The game: Diomedes was better in the first half, always leading. Manthos made it 9-6 in the 21st minute, Tsigaridas made it 11-8 in the 27th minute and Tzimboulas sent the teams into the dressing room and made it 14-11.
In the second half the picture of the game changed, Doukas increased his performance, first managing to close the gap, separating in the 40th minute with Tziras 16:16 and in the 44th minute with Payatis taking the lead for the first time . The coaching team took the lead at 50′ with Tziras with two goals (18:20) and maintained this lead with another goal from Payatis to 22:24 (56:14).
Diomedes reacted and managed to reduce to 23:24 (57:00) with Tsigaridas and achieve a 24:24 draw with Betzilali at 59:30. Doukas had the last attack of the game 20 seconds after a Giorgos Chalkidis time-out but Geroulanos was beaten by Angelits who made a great save to send the game into overtime.
Going into overtime stronger and more determined, ASED took a +4 (24:28) lead with a 4-0 run in the 67th minute, setting his pace to take the win and qualify for 25:30 the final.
