Olympiacos – ASE Doukas 28-27: The Reds and Whites won the trophy in extra time after a thrilling final

Olympiacos beat Doukas 28-27 in extra time to win the Men’s Handball Cup, with Papadopoulos deciding the game in the last minute of play.

The school team sent the final into overtime with a penalty, but here the Grammaticos players’ experience spoke and they emerged victorious.

The match: The picture of the game was what we expected from the first minute. Doukas are a struggling team and by ignoring the danger they put pressure on Olympiakos. Both teams went hand in hand until the score was 5:5.

At this point, Olympiacos managed to get away with three goals (9-6) and maintained that lead until 12-9. Goals from Charitonidis and Tziras reduced Doukas to one goal (12:11), Papavasilis increased to 13:11 before Tziras scored another goal in the first half to make it 13:12.


At the beginning of the second half, Doukas equalized with a goal from Tsakouridis (14:14). In the second quarter both teams played goal for goal.

Olympiacos took the lead for the last time with two 18-16 goals midway through the second half, but Doukas reacted quickly and even took the lead six minutes from time through a goal from Tziras.

The fight lasted until the final, with Papadopoulos scoring 22-21 with 40 seconds remaining in the final. In the very next phase, Geroulanos played a bad pass, but Bayos got into step immediately afterwards.

The Duke players took the last shot from the center and immediately protested to the umpires for a foul on bayou. After viewing the video, the referees decided that the Olympiakos player would not allow the game to continue and therefore awarded a penalty in injury time.

Stefanitsis took over the execution and sent the ball into the net to make it 22:22 and sent the game into overtime.


In the night quarter, Olympiacos took the lead from the start and lifted the cup despite George Chalkidis’ young side struggling to the last second.
