The men’s national handball team beat Montenegro 25:23 for the playoffs of the qualifying phase of the World Indoor Championships in Chalkida.

In front of a full gym in Kanithos-Chalkida, the men’s national team achieved one of the biggest wins in their history by beating Montenegro 25:23 and took the first step towards qualifying for the 2023 World Cup.

Our team of representatives will travel to Podgorica on Sunday at 19:00 to play against Montenegro, aiming to be at a big event after a full 18 years and the 2005 World Cup in Tunisia.

Our national team has been excellent for another game of this qualifier as their streak now reaches 7/7.

The final result in no way reflects the performance of the internationals and is unfair to their performance as they were clearly superior and the difference had to be much bigger.

With a steely defence, Petros Bukovinas impressive under the bars and our attack to play focused, the national team completely controlled the game and even took the lead with +6, 16-10, 32′ and 19-13 at 39΄.

In the last ten minutes, the “blue and white” kept a safe distance and at 57:09 at 25:20 Mylonas scored to 26:20, but… suddenly 26:20… converted into the final with 25:23 The Portuguese Referees cancel the goal for Liapis and even show the red card for our international pivot.

With fewer players in the crucial final minutes and the great irritation, the national team lost concentration which the visitors took advantage of as they reduced to two goals and left Chalkida with an undeserved result.
