PAOK draws 25:25 against Leeds and Dikefalos is disqualified
PAOK hoped for a two-goal win against Leeds to qualify for the next round of the European Cup, but failed with a final score of 25-25 and were eliminated from the competition.
PAOK were hoping for a two-goal win after losing to Linz in Austria last week, but were unable to achieve it as both teams were tied 25-25 at the end of the game.
PAOK has thus been excluded from the European Cup and will now concentrate on domestic competitions.
The relevant bulletin states:
“PAOK drew 25:25 against HC Linz AG in the second game of the second round of the EHF European Cup and were eliminated from European competition.
The first few minutes of the game were even, the two teams were tied 2-2 and PAOK received a lot of offensive support from their own defensive area. The guests took a narrow lead with 5:8, but PAOK reacted and “ran” with the aggressive protagonists Eleftheriadis and Ladakis 4:0 in a row and regained the lead with 9:8. Then Dikefalos, with Tzorgini and Tsamouridis, extended his lead to 13:11 and kept it at 14:12 until the end of the first half.
PAOK started the second half “rapidly”, receiving valuable energy from the hot Mikra and expanding their lead to 18-15. Thanks to a goal from Tzorginis, Dikefalos took a four-goal lead at 20:16 and continued at full speed. At this point, the “Austrians” reacted and reduced the score to 20:19, with Kalomiros ending the series with 21:19 and Nikolaidis putting PAOK in the lead again with 22:19.
HC Linz failed to score at 22:21, but Botskarev and Papazoglou made it 25:23 and gave PAOK another qualification position with five minutes left. In the last five minutes, the “Austrians” scored two goals, equalizing the score at 25:25, which gave the last seconds a “thriller” character. PAOK looked for the “golden” goal but did not find it as the 25:25 final did not give them qualification.
PAOK (Gousios): Gigof, Ladakis 4, Eleftheriadis 4, Tsamouridis 3, Papageorgiou 1, Nikolaidis 1, Papazoglou 4, Koukmisis K., Tsanaxidis 1, Koukmisis N., Batzios, Kalomiros 1, Botskaref 4, Daios, Tzorginis 2″.

Mylonas announced that he is ending his career at the age of 28
International left midfielder Christos Mylonas announced his decision to retire from action following another serious injury.
Christos Mylonas made the decision to end his sports career when he was just 28 years old.
For our international left winger, it was decided that the men’s national team matches in the EURO 2024 final, which will be played in Germany in January, would be the last of his career.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to realize his dream and take part in a major event with the “Blue and Whites” that he and his teammates had worked for years to make happen.
they come true.
His serious injury (complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture) in the game between ASE Doukas and Diomedes Argos for the handball premiership forced him to an even premature end to his short-lived, great and award-winning career.
Christos Mylonas has played in all minor national teams, while he made his men’s national team debut in June 2014 in the 2015 World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia. He played a total of 54 games and scored 152 goals and is on the list of all-time top scorers.
His speed, his leadership qualities in his first year, his intelligence as well as the quality of his character were elements that made him special and one of the leading Greek handball players of all time.
At the collective level, in his 11 seasons in the handball premiership, Christos Mylonas managed to score 650 goals in 218 games and win the treble (championship, cup, European Cup) and a championship in 2021
in 2020 with AEK, where he is the sixth all-time goalscorer with 477 goals, was named league MVP in 2021, was voted the best left winger in two seasons (2020-2001, 2021-2022), and scored 194 goals in European competitions.
He started his career at Anagennisi Byron (2004-2010), moved on to Doukas (2010-2013), returned to Anagennisi (2013-2015) to help them in the big division, moved to again (2015-2016). Diomedes (2016). -2017) at Doukas, followed by a 5-year stay (2017-2018) at AEK. Last season he played in the 2nd Bundesliga
with the Elbflorence Dresden jersey and this year he returned again to Doukas, who he helped to become a star at the handball premiere.
Christos Mylonas underwent surgery today together with his wife, beach handball world champion Apostolina Dimitriou, to heal his injury.
The entire association, the board, the employees and the press office wish him a speedy recovery and continued success in everything he wants to do in his life.
In particular, the President of the OHE Kostas Gandis stated: “The gap that Christos Mylonas will leave in Greek handball is not just a gap in competition, because he is a charismatic athlete, a star in the national team and in all the clubs he has played for.”
We will miss him above all for the values and ethos with which he led the sport over the years. A child with a diamond character – a role model who never caused problems and was always there for our national teams. It is unfair that Christos will not be with our national team at the EURO, our team’s first participation in a major competition in 19 years.
Unfortunately, there are also bad moments in sport. We are sure he still has a lot to offer the sport and the national team, but we fully respect his decision. As a representative of the entire board of the association and, in my opinion, as an expression of the entire sport, I would like to thank him for what he has offered and wish him all the best
Many successes throughout his life and family happiness with his wife and also our athlete Apostolina Dimitriou. OCHE will honor Christos Mylonas for his great contribution to sport in a special event.”
