Olympiacos wants to overtake Barcelona for overall titles in the major team sports
Amateur Olympiacos President Michalis Kountouris presented research on Piraeus’ titles, which ranks second on the list of most trophies in major team sports among multi-sport clubs.
The President of Amateur Olympiacos, Michalis Kountourisheld a press conference in which, among other things, he presented a survey of Europe’s leading multi-sport clubs in titles.
The “Red and Whites” are in 2nd place, behind only Barcelona and only two trophies at the level of the main Olympic team sports for men and women. The trophies in football, basketball, volleyball, polo and handball were particularly examined.
The Catalans have 306 trophies in these sports and 304 trophies in Piraeus, which means that there will also be a reclassification at the top this season. According to the same research, Panathinaikos has 177 trophies in the sports under consideration.
Olympiacos is a leader at the level of championships and cups in the respective sports, with a difference compared to its pursuers. With 161 championships, he is 15 ahead of Red Star, who are in 2nd place in the corresponding table.
Accordingly, the two teams also duel in the cup rankings, with the Greek team having seven more (102 against 95).
Barcelona leads the list of European championship titles with a total of 45, including 14 in men’s football and 22 in men’s handball. In this list, Olympiacos is in 5th place with 17, seven of which are in women’s polo, while three each are represented in men’s basketball, men’s volleyball and men’s polo (the latter is part of women’s volleyball).
Based on the sum of these three main categories, Olympiacos leads with 280 trophies and in 2nd place is Red Star with 246. Barcelona is in 4th place, also behind CSKA, but goes to the top if you count the smaller trophies.
