AEK lost 39:27 against Lucerne and said goodbye to the EHF European League
The AEK men’s handball team ended its commitments in the EHF European League with a defeat as it “bowed” to Kriens Luzern with a score of 39:27 in Switzerland.
The Greek champions had no hopes of qualifying but achieved a positive result in the group finals.
Now the pioneer of this year’s Handball Premier is concentrating entirely on the national competitions with the sole aim of winning the doubles. On a fantastic day it was Stipe Madalinic who scored 10 goals.
In the competition, Martinovic and Madalinic scored the goals for “Union” (0:1, 2:2). The hosts took the lead 6:4 and with a 3:0 run they increased the lead to 5 goals (9:4). AEK, with Mallios scoring two goals in a row, fell to 11-8, while Jonsson and Mandalinic kept AEK in the game (18-14).
In the second half, the “yellow-blacks” with Madalinic and Zambic stayed close to the score until the 35th minute (22:16). The Swiss improved their performance, especially in defense, reaching +8 (29-21). Kederis and Liapis delivered offensive thrusts (30-24), while AEK became more aggressive with the use of Lemos (32-26). However, towards the end of the game the home team prevailed 7-1 and reached the final with 39-27.
