Handball Premier: Wins for Olympiakos and AEK before the derby between them

A week before the top derby for the handball premiere, Olympiacos beat PAOK 26:23 and AEK beat Aeropos 39:17.

Olympiacos SFP and Omilos

Olympiacos started strongly (6-2 in the 13th minute), but PAOK equalized and then made life difficult for the hosts, leaving the score tied 12-12 at halftime. The “Two-Headed” of the North continued at the same pace until the 44th minute (20-19), keeping Olympiakos at a low level, which had a short head and could not escape the goal.

But in the next 6 minutes everything changed when the “Red-Whites” went on a 5-0 run and reached a score of 25:19 (50th minute), which meant the outcome of the game and the victory in their favor was crucial.

AEK won comfortably 39-17 at the Aeropos Edessa headquarters and made it 10-10 in the Handball Premier Championship. The Union now turns its attention to next Saturday’s big derby with Olympiacos, which will conclude the first round and the teams’ commitments for 2023.

Big double for drama, draw between Ionikos and Doukas

With a great double, Drama completed an excellent first round, defeating Diomedes Argos 31-28. Drama dominated the game and built a safety lead early on (12:18 in the 31st minute, 16:23 in the 44th minute, while the score reached 24:31 in the 56th minute and the home team made the final score). . a 4-0 series in the final minutes.

The classic and historic handball premier derby between Ionikos Affidea and ASE Doukas ended without a winner.

The two teams were tied 30-30 in a game in which the score changed as the game progressed. Ionikos – who put in a lot of effort and were very competitive despite their ranking position – led 16-14 at half-time, while Doukas countered in the replay and equalized 18-18 in the 40th minute.

The guests took the lead after the score (24:26), but the hosts took the lead with a 5-0 run in the 57th minute with 29:26 and in the 58th minute with 30:27 and had a huge chance the two points.

The school association responded with Gerulano, Bati and Yantsa and drew 30-30, which was the final result.

An important victory for Pylaia

Pylaia turned the game against GAS Kilkis into a show for a role and confidently won the Handball Premier on matchday 11 with 28:16.

With this win the home team reached 8 points and… erased any suspicions that had been raised about their remaining in the division.

On the other hand, in a game that should have shown a competitive face as it was essentially a local derby and the two teams were only separated by two points, Kilkis were unable to achieve the slightest success as they performed very poorly had offensive harvest.

With a goal from Misailidis to make it 59:55, Zafeirakis Naousas ended a fantastic first round with a great victory (24-23) in Panhellenic’s home game.

The guests, who are the surprise of this year’s championship, collected 12 points in the first half of the season, which gave them a well-deserved 6th place.

The Panhellenic was “ideal machine” for the second home game in a row and loses a game that could cost him his place, after he had a great chance of winning, on the one hand because he was ahead 10-3 in the 18th minute, on the other hand and on the other hand in the 57th minute: 46 won a penalty and two minutes with the score at 22-23, which Dougias eliminated and did not even get the point despite his numerical advantage.

Mylonas announced that he is ending his career at the age of 28

International left midfielder Christos Mylonas announced his decision to retire from action following another serious injury.

Christos Mylonas made the decision to end his sports career when he was just 28 years old.

For our international left winger, it was decided that the men’s national team matches in the EURO 2024 final, which will be played in Germany in January, would be the last of his career.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to realize his dream and take part in a major event with the “Blue and Whites” that he and his teammates had worked for years to make happen.
they come true.

His serious injury (complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture) in the game between ASE Doukas and Diomedes Argos for the handball premiership forced him to an even premature end to his short-lived, great and award-winning career.

Christos Mylonas has played in all minor national teams, while he made his men’s national team debut in June 2014 in the 2015 World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia. He played a total of 54 games and scored 152 goals and is on the list of all-time top scorers.

His speed, his leadership qualities in his first year, his intelligence as well as the quality of his character were elements that made him special and one of the leading Greek handball players of all time.

At the collective level, in his 11 seasons in the handball premiership, Christos Mylonas managed to score 650 goals in 218 games and win the treble (championship, cup, European Cup) and a championship in 2021
in 2020 with AEK, where he is the sixth all-time goalscorer with 477 goals, was named league MVP in 2021, was voted the best left winger in two seasons (2020-2001, 2021-2022), and scored 194 goals in European competitions.

He started his career at Anagennisi Byron (2004-2010), moved on to Doukas (2010-2013), returned to Anagennisi (2013-2015) to help them in the big division, moved to again (2015-2016). Diomedes (2016). -2017) at Doukas, followed by a 5-year stay (2017-2018) at AEK. Last season he played in the 2nd Bundesliga
with the Elbflorence Dresden jersey and this year he returned again to Doukas, who he helped to become a star at the handball premiere.

Christos Mylonas underwent surgery today together with his wife, beach handball world champion Apostolina Dimitriou, to heal his injury.

The entire association, the board, the employees and the press office wish him a speedy recovery and continued success in everything he wants to do in his life.

In particular, the President of the OHE Kostas Gandis stated: “The gap that Christos Mylonas will leave in Greek handball is not just a gap in competition, because he is a charismatic athlete, a star in the national team and in all the clubs he has played for.”

We will miss him above all for the values and ethos with which he led the sport over the years. A child with a diamond character – a role model who never caused problems and was always there for our national teams. It is unfair that Christos will not be with our national team at the EURO, our team’s first participation in a major competition in 19 years.

Unfortunately, there are also bad moments in sport. We are sure he still has a lot to offer the sport and the national team, but we fully respect his decision. As a representative of the entire board of the association and, in my opinion, as an expression of the entire sport, I would like to thank him for what he has offered and wish him all the best
Many successes throughout his life and family happiness with his wife and also our athlete Apostolina Dimitriou. OCHE will honor Christos Mylonas for his great contribution to sport in a special event.”
