Karasavvidis: “It doesn’t matter if the others believed us, but that the children believed it”

Olympiacos coach George Karasavvidis was delighted with winning the league.

The Red and White coach emphasized in olympiacossfp.gr: “It doesn’t matter if the others believed us or not. It’s important that the kids believed in it, which is the most important thing, we who are in the team believed in it. We took it step by step. For a year we thought about doing well as a team, then we thought about playing hard, then playing a little better handball and then winning the league. Today we played our best game against AEK, exactly when we wanted to.

As I said to the players we have in the team, it’s a job for us coaches to play well for the team, but being a team is mostly a kid’s job. The eldest and best leaders, Petros (ss Kandylas), Panos (ss Karabourniotis), Vyronas (ss Papadopoulos) and of course the other kids, put foreigners in the mentality to play for the team and that’s a great achievement. Of course, the name of the club also plays a big role, because the Olympiacos name is huge in all of Europe. We deserved it and we got it”.

For his part Petros Kandylas stated: “Since the beginning of the year we have built a team with a Greek core and high-quality foreigners. We were very lucky because, in addition to very good players, we also brought very good guys with us, and of course in these intense and powerful games the homogeneity is what we have as a team, very important, apart from the handball part. The series was very difficult, all the games were derbies. I think the result was judged by the defense but also by the will that we all showed in the decisive moments. Me think we wanted it more and we got it right.

THAT Panagiotis Karabourniotis he said: “Today is a great day that I will never forget in my life. We managed to win a championship, really against everyone and everything! Few believed us in August that we would become Greek champions but we proved otherwise. I’m proud of all the players, the coaches, the administration and feel blessed to be in a team like Olympiacos! Really, Olympiacos will always be first and try to give everything in every game, every time. The title is dedicated to the whole Olympiacos world, to all those who came here today, but also to those who are not around us because we know that from up there they are happy. We thank our people, it was shocking and present as always”.

The MVP George Papavasilis pointed out: “We did very well and I am very proud of my team. Congratulations to all my teammates and coaches, I am very happy because we deserve this title 100%. We enjoyed it and now is the time to enjoy it. On a personal level, I always try to do my best for my team. What matters is that the team gets the result and it happened. We won and are now Greek champions! And that counts. Congratulations to everyone, what we are experiencing is incredible”.

Finally, that Angel Montoro emphasizes: “It was a very difficult game. We deserved it, we fought all the time and we didn’t know what would happen in the end, but we believed in it very much. In the end, we were the ones who won the title and I’m sure this is just the beginning. It’s hard to put into words what I want to say to our world! But I definitely feel their incredible support, again I’m giving my all for them, thank you so much.”
