Russian forward “Colorado Avalanche” Valery Nichushkin said that he needs to show a high level of play in the new season to justify a new contract with the team, and also spoke about recovery after surgery on his leg.
In the summer, Nichushkin signed a new eight-year contract with the Colorado at a salary of more than $6 million a year. The 27-year-old hockey player took the ice with a broken toe in the last match of the Stanley Cup series, in which his team won the trophy.
– We warmed up, carefully went out onto the ice, it was painful. They rode a little, worked with their hands. After the operation, 9.5 days have passed in total. I’ll fly there almost back to back. It’s a pity that the injury prevented me from returning quickly, the plan was to rest for two weeks and quietly ride.
I plan to return for the start of the season. If the plate gets in the way, they can’t do anything with the skate, then they will have to pull it out and miss an additional six weeks. But it will be known before the start of the season.
I need to justify my contract. I understand that the signed agreement does not guarantee that you cannot play well. The contract needs to be worked out, I want to win back with the money that they gave me, ”Match TV quotes Nichushkin.
