CSKA Moscow has released an official statement regarding rumors that Russian hockey team goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, who was drafted into the army, signed a three-year contract with the club, and could later be exchanged for SKA St. Petersburg.
Earlier, the club and the KHL have already denied in statements to Match TV the information that appeared in the media that Fedotov signed a three-year contract with CSKA. However, according to Match TV, there is an option in which CSKA will sign a contract with Fedotov for several years and immediately exchange him to SKA for Alexander Samonov. In order for this deal to take place, Philadelphia must freeze Fedotov’s contract, and he would become free for contractual relations in the KHL. Thus, Fedotov will be able to play and serve in the army in his hometown of St. Petersburg.
– Due to the appearance of a large number of unreliable, unverified and false information reports, CSKA once again would like to bring to the attention of journalists and fans the information that the hockey club has not and is not negotiating a contract with goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, who bears service in the armed forces of the Russian Federation, nor on the exchange of rights to it with other KHL clubs.
We ask journalists to stop speculating and hype on incorrect coverage of the situation around Ivan, CSKA said in a statement.
In the 2021/22 season, Fedotov won the Gagarin Cup as part of the army, in May he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club.
In early July, the goalkeeper was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service, and later the athlete was taken to Severodvinsk. The 25-year-old goalkeeper filed a lawsuit against the draft board of St. Petersburg, a preliminary meeting will be held on September 20.
