Eric O’Dell on returning to Dynamo: “It’s not just about money, it’s about where you’re comfortable”

Dynamo Moscow striker Eric O’Dell spoke about recovering from a shoulder injury and why he decided to return to the club.

The return of the 32-year-old hockey player to the team was announced in July. The striker’s new contract is for one season and is one-sided.

– Could you end your career a couple of years ago due to an injury? I don’t think it was all that bad. But I couldn’t play with such an injury, my hand was very sore. I tore the lip of my shoulder joint, went home for surgery, and then I had another six or seven months to recover. Now this shoulder is even stronger than the uninjured one. Can you imagine? Last year I felt so good that I didn’t think about this hand at all and played well.

What was the recovery like? For the first month I kept my hand in a fixing bandage, then I slowly began to develop my hand, then I began to work with dumbbells, and so on. I spent time with my family, I got better, I hoped to return to the team for the next season. Unfortunately, my contract was bought out, and I really liked it in Siberia. But Dynamo Moscow signed me, and I really like Moscow. Glad they gave me a chance.

Yes, they didn’t know if I would have any more problems with my shoulder, but I immediately signed this contract with the condition of breaking in case of a relapse, because I was completely sure. I feel comfortable here, the club treats me and my family well. We like Moscow and the club itself, everything is very professional here. Sometimes it’s not just about the money, it’s about where you feel comfortable. Here they treat the players very well, this is the most important thing, – quotes the words of the Canadian “Championship”.

Coach of the Ukrainian national team: “Fans want to see us in the elite team. You still need experience”

Dmitry Khristich, the coach of the Ukraine national hockey team, made a 2025 prediction for the team. The main event was the World Championship in Division 1A, where the team only lost their chance to reach the elite league in the last match.

“I think the year has been positive. We won most of our matches. I also rate our performance in the World Championship positively. Many people probably wanted us to get into the elite league immediately, but I believe that we need to gain experience and confidence at this level. You have to believe in yourself and build on your experience by getting positive results against D1A teams and promotion teams that constantly jump from league to league.”

“We need to learn to play the full 60 minutes, to play against any opponent, to be tactically flexible… All these and many other nuances still need to be worked out,” Khristic said.
