Omsk “Avangard” needs to strengthen the composition, primarily the position of the goalkeeper, center forward and defender, hockey expert Sergei Gimaev believes.
Avangard started the new Fonbet KHL Championship season with five losses in five matches.
– In your opinion, were there any positive developments in Avangard’s game in the match against Sibir?
– Of course, Avangard needs to strengthen the squad. There are problems in the line of defense. I was very surprised that the “hawks” did not renew Emelin. Belov, Belyakov and Yarosh are much inferior to Emelin and the Finnish defenders who left the team. Galimov instead of Grubets is also an unequal replacement. The failure is observed in the line of central forwards. Yes, Avangard has extended Corben Knight, but Alex Broadhurst is playing on the second line, who absolutely does not live up to expectations. When he was signed, more was expected of him. Next comes the hole. There is Malykhin, but let’s remember who used to be at Avangard in this position. These are Semenov, Prokhorkin and Kablukov. I think this is the key point. Ryabykin worked for a long time under the leadership of Hartley, he gained experience and knows his system. Bob is a coach who has won everything possible. Dmitry is just ahead, this is his debut as head coach.
But I think that Avangard will get better. Even with this squad, he is able to score points and win matches. But Omsk need to strengthen and look for a goalkeeper, center forward and defender. I am sure that Avangard will make it to the playoffs, but if there are no new players (ed.), the team will not be able to compete for the Gagarin Cup.

There was already a situation this season when Krizhinka suspended its participation in the championship due to referee problems.
