Three-time Stanley Cup winner, State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov called strange the decision of a member of the executive committee of the Slovak Hockey Federation, Michal Handzus, who resigned because of disagreement with the organization’s intention to call players from the KHL to the national team.

Previously, the owner of the Stanley Cup Gandzush resigned due to disagreement with the position of his federation on the invitation to the Slovak national team of hockey players from the KHL.

– Let the champion rest, this is his position. I want to express my gratitude to Slovakia for the fact that they will call the players from Russia, well done. And let the guy rest, his brains are probably sharpened differently, one can only sympathize. A strange guy, Fetisov told RBC Sport.

Previously, the national teams of the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland and Latvia decided not to invite players from the KHL.

The national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from international competitions, including the world championship held in Finland in May, due to the situation in Ukraine. Russia will also not play at the World Championships in 2023 and at the World Youth Championships.

On August 20, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced that it does not plan to allow the national teams of Russia and Belarus in 2023 to international competitions under the auspices of the organization.
