Gagarin Cup MVP Popov played the seventh match of the series against Metallurg with a torn knee ligament

CSKA striker Alexander Popov with a torn knee ligament played the decisive seventh match of the final series of the Gagarin Cup with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, according to Match TV.

The meeting took place on Saturday in Magnitogorsk and ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the Moscow army, CSKA won the series with a score of 4-3. The 41-year-old CSKA forward scored the winning goal and was also named the most valuable player (MVP) in the KHL playoffs.

After the victory, CSKA President Igor Esmantovich told Match TV that the club had offered Popov a new contract: “Now it all depends on Sanya, but we would like to keep this player.”

In the current playoffs, Popov scored 9 points (4 goals + 5 assists) in 19 games. He won the Gagarin Cup for the second time with CSKA.
