Swedish hockey players who took part in the KHL playoffs of the 2021/22 season will not be called up to the national team for the 2022 World Championship.

“None of the players who participated in the KHL playoffs are eligible to play at the World Championships in Finland,” the Swedish Hockey Association (SIF) said in a statement, cited by Reuters.

Earlier, the Finnish Hockey Union announced a decision not to invite players from the KHL to the national team.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced earlier that the national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from participation in the World Championship due to the situation in Ukraine. The Russian and Belarusian teams at the tournament will be replaced by France and Austria.

The world championship will be held in the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere from 13 to 29 May.
