The head coach of the Russian national ice hockey team, Alexei Zhamnov, said that the final decision on the participation of the national team in the 2023 World Championship has not yet been made.
Earlier, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the organization due to the situation in Ukraine. In February, the Russian team, before the IIHF ban, won the silver of the Beijing Olympics.
– The main thing that remains in the memory of this season is the Olympics, of course. It turned out to be crumpled because of the pandemic. But from everything you need to extract positive aspects.
The Olympics is the Olympics, whatever it may be. Even if everything was closed, we wore masks and followed a certain protocol. But there were more good emotions, – quotes the words of Zhamnov “Match TV”.
– Is there a chance that the Russian team will still play at the World Cup in 2023? Despite the fact that the home tournament has already been taken away from us.
– Well, yes, there is no final decision yet. So we are waiting to see how the situation develops.
The upcoming 86th Ice Hockey World Championship will be held in the spring of 2023. Initially it was supposed to hold the tournament in St. Petersburg, but the IIHF deprived Russia of this right.
