His grandfather had a great influence on the development of Rangers hockey player Artemy Panarin as a child, said former Traktor director Andrei Balandin.
The Rangers beat Carolina in Game 6 of the series 5-3 on Thursday to advance to the Stanley Cup semifinals. Panarin gave two assists in this game. In total, the Russian has 11 points (4+7) in 10 matches in the playoffs.
— Grandfather took Artemy from Korkino to hockey in Chelyabinsk, but he didn’t fit into Traktor. Then he played for the Signal school along with my son Nikita. Then he went to Vityaz and was able to start playing. Now he is one of the leaders of the Rangers and plays effectively, confirming his high level. Panarin is already a mature master. We hope he can win the Stanley Cup.
— Aren’t you surprised that the guy from Korkino has achieved such heights?
— A lot of people from the periphery become stars in order to break out to a better life. They take everything more responsibly and want to prove themselves. All the nuggets are from the outback. There is nothing surprising here. I was more surprised by his grandfather’s confidence. We often communicated with him when he brought Artemy to training. I had an equipment store at the Tractor school, and he constantly drank tea from me. I was amazed: my grandfather was simply confident that Panarin would play at a very high level. And he was just a child then.
Apparently, his grandfather instilled this confidence in him, transferred all his strength and energy. He is the creator of his grandson. It should also be noted that Oleg Znark, who became Panarin’s father-in-law. Perhaps he also has a positive influence and gives advice in some areas. In the past, Znarok was a good player, also a former coach of the Russian national team and a three-time winner of the Gagarin Cup,” RB Sport quotes Balandin as saying.
