An NHL employee was injured by protective glass right during the match. This is where the real farm is!
Boston fans were so excited about the goal that they almost killed an elderly man. The coordinator was put on a stretcher and hospitalized.
“This is a collective farm! This is our Russian collective farm,” Alexander Radulov said a few years ago about the Ufa Arena and its workers. The stadium staff drilled through the ice to secure the goal, but something went wrong, and a fountain filled from there, flooding the goalkeeper’s workplace with water.
Since then, the phrase has gained popularity and has become a meme among hockey fans. And now the fans use it at any opportunity. Just such a case occurred in the third match of the NHL playoffs between Boston and Carolina.
But the story with the Ufa Arena turned out to be funny, and a tragedy almost happened at the home stadium of the Bears.
Elderly man almost killed by glass
An unpleasant episode occurred at the end of the second period. “Boston” at this point was leading the “Carolina” – 2: 1 and, in addition, received the majority. When the bears forward David Pastrnak converted the numerical advantage, the Bruins fans simply went crazy with joy. Tens of thousands of people in the stands screamed with happiness and violently beat their hands on the protective glass.
The hockey fence can withstand the strongest throws of NHL players, but it turned out to be powerless in front of emotional Boston fans. The spectators sitting behind the bad guys’ bench hit the glass so hard that at some point it fell into the penalty box. Unfortunately, the hockey fence fell right on the head of time-out coordinator Joe Foley.
The man lost consciousness, fell to the floor and lay motionless. Doctors from both teams immediately ran to help the NHL employee. They even had to use a stretcher to carry Foley away for further medical attention. Soon, according to sports journalist Matt Porter, it became known that everything was fine with Foley, but just in case, he was taken to the hospital.
Should the NHL take a cue from the KHL?
When the game resumed and the glass was replaced, a policeman stood on the scene and forbade the fans to hit the glass. It seems that this episode may be the reason for changing the rules in the NHL. League bosses should think about moving the stands a little further from the hockey rink. In the KHL, for example, after a conflict between coach Andrey Nazarov and the fans, an additional protective glass was introduced over the bench. So the NHL in this regard can expect changes.
During the match, the referee also got
It is noteworthy that before the episode with the glass in the Boston arena, the linesman was injured. During the commercial break, a stadium employee quickly removed the snow from the ice into a large bucket and hurried out of the venue. But the worker failed to leave – the referee rolled out to meet him. The linesman stared at the players and did not see the arena employee approaching at full speed. As a result, the snow blower rammed the referee with a bucket – the blow was so strong that the referee fell on the ice and could not get up for a long time.
Fortunately, everything worked out and the linesman was not seriously injured. And after the fans even joked that everyone hated Brad Marchand was in the snow blower costume.
Two unpleasant episodes were not in vain for Boston – now the Bears are no longer tolerated by all fans in the NHL. Previously, fans of other teams disliked the Bruins because of their dirty style and the same Marchand, who often behaves unsportsmanlike. Now the NHL hates Boston fans too.
“Boston fans bang on the glass like kids in a fish tank,” Thazal writes.
Bruins fans began to make excuses that in every stadium in the NHL, spectators love to knock on glass. But it seems that this will not save from the anger of the fans of other clubs.

The match itself ended with the victory of “Boston” over “Carolina” – 4:2. But it seems that the game itself will quickly be forgotten because of the sura that was going on in the stadium. Fortunately, everything worked out in two episodes, and the judges did not receive serious injuries.
