Russian hockey players win Stanley Cup for ninth season in a row

Russian hockey players have won the Stanley Cup for the ninth time in a row, capturing the trophy at the end of the 2023/24 season in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Florida beat Edmonton 2-1 at home in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday to win the trophy for the first time in history. The Panthers’ winning team included Russians Sergei Bobrovsky, Vladimir Tarasenko and Dmitry Kulikov.

In 2016 and 2017, Evgeni Malkin won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh, in 2018, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov won the trophy with Washington, in 2019, Vladimir Tarasenko and Ivan Barbashev won with St. Louis, in 2020, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Nikita Kucherov, Mikhail Sergachev and Alexander Volkov won the trophy with Tampa Bay, and a year later, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov and Sergachev repeated their success with the Lightning. In 2022, Valeri Nichushkin won the NHL playoffs with Colorado, and in 2023, Barbashev became a two-time winner of the trophy with Vegas.
