Former Spartak hockey player Alexander Kozhevnikov assessed Ilya Kovalchuk’s form, noting that the 41-year-old striker can still be useful to the Red-Whites.

Kovalchuk signed a contract with Spartak in December 2023. The Olympic champion returned to the ice after a two-year break. As part of the Red-Whites, Kovalchuk played 25 matches in the regular championship and playoffs of the KHL, scored four goals and made four assists. He turned 41 in April.

– Ilya always helps the club he joins. An uncle is always needed. Kovalchuk connects hockey players and coaches, he knows how to do it. Why shouldn’t he stay at Spartak?

If he feels good physically, then I don’t see any problems. The main thing here is not to get some kind of bad injury. From a game point of view, he is fine, he can be useful, – Metaratings.ru quotes Kozhevnikov as saying.

Earlier, Spartak head coach Alexey Zhamnov, in an interview with Match TV, did not rule out that Kovalchuk would continue to work at the club.
