Russian hockey players will take part in the 2022 NHL draft
Commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL) Gary Bettman said that Russian players will be allowed to participate in the 2022 NHL draft.
“We immediately condemned Russia, cutting off our business ties, which resulted in the loss of many millions of dollars. I think it’s fair to say that Russian players play for their NHL teams, they don’t play for Russia. They are in a rather difficult situation, especially those who have families in Russia. It may be difficult for many people to understand this, but this is a reality that cannot be overlooked, Sportsnet quotes Bettman.
The draft is scheduled for July 7-8 in Montreal.
The commissioner also noted that a decision has not yet been made on the participation of the Russian team in the Ice Hockey World Cup, which is tentatively scheduled for the period before the 2026 Winter Olympics.
