Olympic champion Andrei Kovalenko believes that Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin will break the sniper record of Canadian Wayne Gretzky.
Ovechkin is 38 years old and wears jersey number 8 for Washington. The Russian forward is second on the list of all-time NHL snipers with 853 goals, behind only Canadian Gretzky (894). The Russian won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in the 2017/18 season.
— Sani, as always, is having a good season, he is the best in America not only in statistics, but also in his game. What many say about him already this year being able to repeat Gretzky’s record, but he hasn’t scored enough… Listen, you can’t always score in every game! You do a lot for the team, for its victory. The real value of a player is when you attack, shoot, put pressure on the defenders, support your teammates in the locker room, and they, looking at your work, do the same.
Sasha does a tremendous job both on the ice and outside of hockey, and in the locker room. The fact that he hasn’t scored 50+ goals this year doesn’t mean he’s gone downhill. He still has the opportunity, the contract, and the desire to make all these records a reality. How long will it take for Ovechkin to break Gretzky’s record? Let’s not guess, because last year many people were fanfare-ing and fireworks-ing that all this would happen. I believe that this event will take place. Let the sports god himself judge when this record will be broken, Sovetsky Sport quotes Kovalenko as saying.
