Kuznetsov on the execution of penalty shots: “I won’t tell you the secret. But I myself don’t know why goalkeepers can’t stop them”
SKA forward Evgeny Kuznetsov told Match TV about his signature style of executing penalty shots.
On Friday, SKA beat Sochi in a shootout (2:1) in the first match of the Nikolai Puchkov tournament. Kuznetsov scored two attempts, including the winning shot.
— The absolute highlight of the evening was your two scored bullets in your signature slow-mo style. What were you planning?
— I converted the first penalty shot by accident. I can’t say how. But the second penalty shot turned out just as I had planned. It was clear that their goalie was holding the pancake down, and there was space under his arm.
— It seems that anyone can drive up at such low speed and throw it so sharply, scoring a goal. How do you train your shootout?
— I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know (smiles). I won’t tell you my secret.
– But all the goalies know what you’re going to do. Why can’t they stop your shot?
“You have to ask them, I don’t know,” Kuznetsov told Match TV.
This offseason, 32-year-old Kuznetsov terminated his contract with Carolina and returned to the KHL. The forward signed a four-year contract with SKA.
