Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov believes that the trade to San Jose will benefit the career of Russian goalkeeper Yaroslav Askarov.

Askarov was traded from Nashville on Friday, signing a two-year, $4 million deal with the Sharks that will begin in the 2025-26 season. He will continue to be on his entry-level contract, which he signed two years ago, for the upcoming season.

– God grant him luck. We should always wish our people luck, and we should wish luck to any people. We have many people who leave overseas before their time and then come back. Askarov himself seemed to want the trade. There is little press about him, what is he like there. They don’t show the AHL here. Askarov was selected by Nashville in 2020 with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. He has been with the club since 2022. Last season, the 22-year-old goalie played 44 regular season games in the AHL and saved an average of 91.1% of shots per game. In the NHL, Askarov played in three games and won one victory.

Junior World Hockey Championship. Great comeback from the USA, 9 goals and hat-trick from Canada

Another day of play in the elite league of the World Junior Hockey Championship has ended.

The USA team beat Slovakia with a score of 6:5, with big problems. The host team of the tournament lost 0:2 and 1:3 but managed to come back and win.

Forward Tomas Hrenko scored a double for the Slovaks, scoring three goals in the last match. And the Americans have a double thank you to James Hagens.

USA and Sweden are leaders in the group with 9 points.

In the other group, Canada beat Denmark 9-1, while forward Gavin McKenna is expected to score a hat-trick and become number 1 in the 2026 draft.

In another match, the Czech Republic defeated Finland 2:1 in overtime.

Another match day has started in the elite league of the U-20 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Swedish team, one of the favorites, beat Germany with a score of 8:1. This was the team’s third victory after matches against Slovakia and Switzerland.

Swedish leaders Frondell and Björk scored a double each.

Sweden is leading the group with 9 points.

The German team is still scoreless and in last place in the group.

Detroit beat Toronto 3:2 in overtime in an NHL regular season match. The Wings came back twice and won thanks to a goal from young defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

The team leads the East with Carolina.

Tampa Bay is in the top 3 in the conference after beating Montreal 4:3 in the penalty shootout. This is the Lightning’s fourth straight win.

Pittsburgh defeated Chicago 7:3 and forward Justin Brazeau scored his first hat trick of his NHL career. That’s right, the Penguins are second to last in the standings.
