Amur hockey player Lee: “Martemyanov is old school, but that’s good. He is a very demanding coach”

Amur defender Cameron Lee called the head coach of the Khabarovsk team Andrei Martemyanov a very demanding specialist.

Martemyanov took over as head coach of Amur in May 2023, having previously served as the team’s head coach from 2016 to 2018.

— Martemyanov said that he likes that you changed your style of play and stopped taking so many risks.

— Yes, the coaching staff doesn’t want me to play a lot of attack and thinks that I should focus more on defense. This is different from my usual style of play. I’ve always been an attacking player, I liked to skate a lot, and I thought that was my strength. But I’m going to play the hockey that is required of me, because I want to make the roster and win with the team. Now I’m more focused on blocking shots, working in my zone and passing the puck to the forwards so that they go on the attack. In other words, I’m going to play the way the coach asks me to.

– Martemyanov is considered an old school coach.

— He is old school, but that is good. He is a very demanding coach, he demands that everyone give 100% and does not like it when players fool around. He lives hockey and only wants to win. Working with such a coach is a very good experience. I am glad that I had this opportunity. I learned a lot during my time playing for Amur, — Lee told RB Sport.
