Russian Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin has a chance to break Wayne Gretzky’s sniper record in the upcoming NHL season, said two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov.

Ovechkin is second on the NHL’s all-time scoring list with 853 goals, behind only Gretzky (894). Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup with Washington in 2018 and won three World Championships with the Russian national team.

— Does Ovechkin have a chance to break Gretzky’s record this season?

“He has it in his blood! That’s not my opinion. He’s a natural born striker,” Kozhevnikov told “Championship”.

On Tuesday, September 17, Ovechkin turned 39 years old.
