Metallurg Magnitogorsk announced the resignation of Sergei Gomolyako from the post of sports director of the club.

The agreement between the club and the functionary was terminated by mutual consent of the parties. The functions of sports director will be temporarily performed by Metallurg director Alexey Zhloba.

— Sergei Gomolyako decided to take a break and rest from hockey activities. We respect Sergei Yuryevich’s decision. The job of a sports director is hard work, including emotionally. For almost four years at the club, Sergei Yuryevich had a hand in creating two different squads, one of which became a champion, and the other stopped one step away from gold, the club press service quotes Zhloba as saying.

Gomolyako has served as the sports director of Metallurg since December 2020. In 1995–2000 and 2002–2003, Gomolyako was a Metallurg player, and from 2011 to 2013 he was a member of the coaching staff of the Magnitogorsk club.

As a functionary, Gomolyako became a two-time winner of the Gagarin Cup (2014, 2024).
