“I thought about everything, after which I decided to work at Metallurg.” They didn’t abandon me alone” – Biryukov

Sports director of Metallurg Magnitogorsk Evgeny Biryukov admitted that his arrival to the new position was deliberate.

In early October, former Metallurg hockey player Biryukov was introduced as the new sports director of Magnitogorsk. Previously, this post was held by Sergei Gomolyako.

— How many years have you signed an agreement with Metallurg as a sports director?

– This is an inside story. We work, we get involved, and then we’ll see.

— Weren’t you worried that you have enormous experience as a player, have coaching experience, but no managerial experience at all?

“It’s stupid to say that I wasn’t worried.” I had all sorts of thoughts, I thought it over, and then made a decision. They immediately told me that there would be support and help. We have an excellent specialist, Alexander Malashkin, one of the best sports lawyers in the league with extensive experience: 20 years at the club. So they didn’t leave me alone, there was help from all sides (laughs), Biryukov told the Championship.
