The NHL fined Kuznetsov $5,000 for hitting an opponent with a stick
Washington Capitals Russian forward Yevgeny Kuznetsov has been fined $5,000 for hitting an opponent with a club in an NHL playoff game against Florida, according to the league’s website.
This was announced by the NHL Department of Player Safety.
The incident occurred in the first period of the third meeting of the first-round playoff series, which took place in Washington on May 7 and ended 6-1 in favor of the Capitals. Kuznetsov, after stopping the game, jabbed a stick in the chin of Panthers forward Noel Acciari. The money will be transferred to the Emergency Player Assistance Fund.
The score in the series is 2-1 in favor of Washington, the fourth game will be held on May 9.
In three playoff games this season, the Russian scored one goal. In 79 regular season games, he scored 78 points (24+54).
