Ovechkin entered the top 25 NHL players in games played
Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin came into clear 25th place among all players in terms of the number of matches played in the National Hockey League (NHL).
On Friday, Ovechkin took part in a home match of the NHL regular season against the Minnesota Wild.
According to the league’s press service, this is Ovechkin’s 1,496th game in the NHL regular championships in his entire career. Thus, Ovechkin moved into clear 25th place in history in terms of this indicator. He passed Phil Housley (1,495) and moved closer to Mike Modano (1,499) in the overall standings.
Last season, Ovechkin surpassed Wayne Gretzky, among others, with 1,487 games.
The all-time record belongs to Canadian forward Patrick Marleau, who played 1,779 regular-season matches from 1995 to 2021.
