After the results of a big day in the NHL, two teams are leading the East. Carolina beat Washington 3:2 in the penalty shootout and took first place ahead of Stolichny on additional indicators.

Hurricanes goaltender Brandon Bussey won his eighth straight game.

The New York Islanders beat Anaheim 5-2 to stay one point behind. Anders Lee had two goals and two assists for the Islanders.

Next up for the conference leaders is Tampa Bay. Yildirim defeated New Jersey by scoring eight goals.
