Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin moved into clear 20th place in history in terms of the number of career matches played in the National Hockey League.
The NHL regular season game against Detroit was his 1,527th career.
Ovechkin passed former Nashville and Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter (1,526). 19th place in the history of the league in this indicator is taken by current Colorado defender Brent Burns (1531), and ex-Arizona captain Shane Doan (1540) is in 18th place.
The league record holder is ex-San Jose forward Patrick Marleau, who played 1,779 games during his career.
