Crosby became Pittsburgh’s record holder for the most points scored in the NHL

Forward and captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby set the club record for the most points scored in the NHL regular season.

On Sunday, Pittsburgh defeated the Montreal Canadiens (4:3) in a shootout at home in the regular season. Crosby scored the puck and provided an assist.

The 38-year-old Canadian forward has 1,724 points (645 goals and 1,079 assists). In terms of points, Crosby surpassed former Penguins forward Mario Lemieux (1,723) to become the club’s record holder. Lemieux has led Pittsburgh in scoring since January 20, 1989. Crosby was 17 months old at the time.

In addition, Crosby moved ahead of Lemieux into eighth place on the list of top scorers in NHL history. The leader in this indicator is Canadian Wayne Gretzky – 2857 points.

Crosby is a three-time Stanley Cup winner, two-time Olympic champion and world champion. The striker has played for Pittsburgh throughout his career.
