In the second period of the group stage match of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship between the US and Latvia national teams, a funny episode happened.
American forward Alex Galchenyuk, in a duel at the boards with Latvian defender Kristaps Zile, lifted his stick high and hit his opponent in the face. The hook of the American’s stick got stuck under Zile’s visor, which caused discontent among the hockey player.
For his actions, Galchenyuk was punished with a two-minute penalty, but the Latvian team failed to realize the numerical advantage.
The second period continues in the match, the score is 4:0 in favor of the USA.
