Crosby and the NHL overtime record, victories by Florida, Montreal and Chicago

Matchday of the NHL regular season started with a bright match between Pittsburgh and Columbus. The Penguins won 5:4 in overtime but lost 1:4 in the match. The home team responded in the third period, with Sidney Crosby scoring the winner in overtime.

The forward became the first player in NHL history to score 50 points in overtime. Pittsburgh won its fifth straight and finished in the top 4 in the Metropolitan Division.

In another match that also included overtime, Montreal defeated Dallas 4:3 and rose to the top 3 in the East. However, the Stars suffered their fifth consecutive defeat but remained in the top 2 of the West.

In the third overtime match of the day between Chicago and Vegas, the Hawks won 3:2 and forward Tyler Bertuzzi scored a hat trick.

Despite all the problems this season, defending champion Florida stopped Colorado. Panthers won the match 2:1 and ended the regular season leader’s 10-game winning streak.

New Jersey – Caroline 1:3

Chicago – Vegas 3:2 in overtime
