NHL record holder and 13-time All-Star Glenn Hall dies
Three-time Vezina Trophy winner and 1961 Stanley Cup winner Glenn Hall has died at the age of 95. ESPN reports this.
The former goalkeeper of Detroit, St. Louis and Chicago died in a hospital in the Canadian city of Stony Plain. It is reported that the elderly ex-athlete’s health condition worsened in December.
“Glenn was a strong, reliable and incredibly talented goalkeeper. His record has still not been broken and will probably never be broken. “It’s almost unbelievable, especially considering he played without a mask,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said.
Hall played in the NHL from 1951–1971. He participated in the league’s All-Star Games 13 times, won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 1961, and received the individual Vezina Trophy for the NHL’s best regular-season goaltender three times.
Hall holds one of the league’s oldest goalie records, having started 502 consecutive regular-season games. However, in accordance with the standards of that era in the NHL, Hall played without a goalie mask.
