Ovechkin, Bowman and Larionov congratulated Fedorov on the retirement of the number in Detroit

Star hockey players and NHL coaches congratulated Russian Sergei Fedorov, whose jersey number was solemnly retired by the Detroit Red Wings.

“Detroit” held a ceremony at the home Little Caesars Arena to retire the 91st game number that belonged to Fedorov. The ceremony took place before the start of the NHL regular season match against Carolina. A traditional part of the ceremony was video messages to the laureate, who was personally present at the arena with his family.

– So many years have passed, and now we remember what an outstanding team we had! Several of its players have already received the honor of displaying their numbers. I congratulate you, Sergey, on this! — ex-head coach of Detroit, nine-time Stanley Cup winner as a coach (three times with Detroit) Scotty Bowman, said in the video.

“You were a great hockey player, an excellent teammate and one of the best players of all time,” said former Detroit defenseman and three-time Stanley Cup winner Chris Chelios.

“You’ve had an incredible career.” You were one of the best hockey players I ever played against. “You helped me grow as a person and as a hockey player,” said the best scorer in NHL history, Alexander Ovechkin.

“It was an honor to play with you.” Those glorious times when Detroit and I won the Stanley Cup! “I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart,” said SKA head coach, ex-Detroit forward and three-time Stanley Cup winner Igor Larionov.

Fedorov played for Detroit from 1990 to 2003, won three Stanley Cups with the team and in 1994 became the first European to win the Hart Trophy, the prize for the most valuable player in the NHL.
