Canadian Gerard Galland left the post of head coach of the Shanghai Dragons due to health problems, the press service of the KHL club reports.

Mike Kelly will serve as the team’s head coach.

— After consultations with the team doctor and the club management, the head coach of the Shanghai Dragons, Gerard Galland, decided to leave his post and focus on fully restoring his health.

At the moment, Gerard Galland’s condition has improved. “We ask the media to respect the Gallan family’s right to privacy and not be disturbed by comments,” the club said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, in recent weeks my health has not allowed me to fully perform my duties. In such a situation, I considered it right to leave my post. We conferred with management and parted as friends. I believe that the team will be able to come out of the difficult situation that has developed at the moment with honor,” Gallan said.

Galland took charge of the Shanghai Dragons before the start of the current season. The team is in ninth place in the Western Conference standings with 43 points.
