Barys beat CSKA in a KHL home match for the first time since November 2017
Kazakhstan’s Barys defeated Moscow’s CSKA in the home match of the Fonbet KHL Championship.
The meeting in Astana ended with a score of 3:1 (1:0, 0:0, 2:1) in favor of the hosts. Michael Vecchione scored a double for the winners, and Tais Thompson scored another goal. Maxim Sorkin scored for the guests.
Barys beat CSKA for the first time since February 2023. In addition, the Kazakh team has not defeated the Army team on home ice since November 2017.
Barys broke a streak of five consecutive defeats in the KHL. The team with 39 points is in 10th position in the Eastern Conference standings, behind Khabarovsk Amur in additional indicators.
CSKA (54 points) is sixth in the West.
In the next match, Barys will play away against Lada Tolyatti on January 20. CSKA will again meet with the Kazakh team, the game will take place in Moscow on January 22.
