“I’m confused, but I don’t have a problem.” Panarin on the Rangers’ decision not to renew his contract
Russian New York Rangers forward Artemy Panarin said that he will not have problems with motivation after the club’s management decided not to renew his contract.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury announced Friday that the team is in need of a rebuild. According to Sportsnet, Drury held a private meeting with members of the leadership team and players before the letter was published. Panarin was informed that he would not be offered a new contract.
– It’s hard to say what I feel. I’m confused, but the general manager decided to go this route. I have no problem with this. I’m playing for Rangers now, so I’ll give 100% in every game. That’s all I wanted to say about this situation, for the first time in my life I’ll try to be smart. Let’s talk about hockey,” journalist Vince Mercogliano quotes Panarin on social networks.
The 34-year-old forward’s current agreement with a cap hit of $11.64 million runs until June 30, 2026.
This season, Panarin has 54 points (18+36) in 48 regular season matches. He is the team’s top scorer and best assistant.
