Guberniev on Ovechkin’s three-game goalless streak: “I don’t see any big problems. He plays in the strongest league in the world.”
Commentator Dmitry Guberniev told Match TV that he sees no problems in the goalless streak of Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin.
On Sunday, Washington lost to the Florida Panthers in the NHL regular season match (2:5), Ovechkin was not effective. Ovechkin’s goalless streak extended to three games.
— Ovechkin is having an absolutely normal season. People who have been involved in sports at least a little understand that it is impossible to score or pass every time. He plays in the strongest league in the world. There is no need to demand heroic deeds every day. I’m like Baron Munchausen: everything is going fine. Doesn’t score or pass – nothing happened. I don’t really understand the fuss about this. If he hadn’t scored or assisted in 15 matches, then we could still talk about something. But Ovechkin plays against the best people in hockey – people just like him.
If he played with the boys in the yard and never scored or passed, then one could say that yes, something wrong is happening. And so, I don’t understand the conversations that are happening with Ovechkin. Strange. Everything is fine. I don’t see any big problems here,” Guberniev told Match TV.
Ovechkin has 994 goals in the NHL, including the playoffs, Wayne Gretzky’s record is 1016 goals. The 40-year-old Russian is the league record holder for goals in the regular season (917).
Ovechkin has scored 20 goals and provided 21 assists this season.
