The agent assessed the likelihood of Panarin returning to the KHL
Alexander Chernykh, who represented the interests of New York Rangers forward Artemy Panarin during a performance in Russia, answered a question about the hockey player’s possible return to the KHL in a conversation with Match TV.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury announced Friday that the team is in need of a rebuild. According to Sportsnet, Drury held a private meeting with members of the leadership team and players before the letter was published. Panarin was informed that he would not be offered a new contract.
— How do you see the future of Artemy?
– Definitely, Artemy will still gain points and delight all Russian fans with his play in the team in which he will be. After Chicago traded him, when he became the best, nothing surprises me anymore.
— Is it hypothetically possible for him to return to the KHL?
— He is so young by hockey standards, compared to other players! Artemy is in great shape and takes good care of his health. If he makes such a decision, everyone here will only be glad to see him. But I think he still has enough strength and is competitive in that market (NHL), Chernykh told Match TV.
The 34-year-old forward’s current agreement with the Rangers with a cap hit of $11.64 million runs until June 30, 2026.
This season, Panarin has 54 points (18+36) in 48 regular season matches. He is the team’s top scorer and best assistant.
