The strongest hockey player on the planet cut his opponent. The bloodied Swede was carried from the site

McDavid accidentally stepped on a Blues player.

A frightening episode occurred in the Edmonton – St. Louis match. Captain of the Canadian club Connor McDavid inflicted a terrible injury on his opponent, cutting him with his skate until he bled. The Blues’ Swedish forward had to be immediately carried off the site. The forward only recently recovered from a complex operation and will now again be left without hockey for an indefinite period.

“Accident”

Before the unpleasant collision, the Oilers managed to mock the opponent’s defense by sending five goals into Jordan Binnington’s goal. At the same time, the Canadian team brought the matter to a devastating score in less than 42 minutes. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who was the first to upset Binnington, improved his statistics. Nugent-Hopkins played the 1000th match in his career and congratulated himself on his anniversary by converting the majority.

Russian forward Vasily Podkolzin also scored. The striker first took an active part in the scoring combination, which was completed by Zach Hyman. Then Podkolzin raced to the far post in the 42nd minute and finished off McDavid’s precise pass with one touch, scoring his 12th goal of the season. Vasily, scoring in the second match in a row, established the final score – 5:0.

And then the Edmonton captain, who scored an assist double, became the center of attention, but not thanks to his trademark solo passes. During the start of the next attack, McDavid tried to break through the boards, but Oskar Sundqvist pushed the Canadian to the protective fence. At that moment, Sundqvist lost his balance and began to fall onto the ice, pulling his opponent with him. Connor wanted to step over the attacker, but it didn’t work: the attacker stepped on the Swede’s leg with the blade of his skate and left a cut.

Judging by Oscar’s suffering face, the referees immediately realized that the match had to be stopped. A medical worker immediately ran onto the ice and, with the help of the St. Louis players, took Sundqvist to the tribune room. The hockey player covered the entire path on one leg, holding the cut site with his hand.

The terrible episode immediately spread across social networks, where fans noted that they were very scared for the Swede. They also added that McDavid seemed to be scared himself and was sincerely worried about his opponent.

— The episode was terrible. I hope he gets better soon,” Lawndemon wrote.

“It’s immediately clear that McDavid feels sorry for him. An accident, that’s for sure,” noted gS_Mastermind.

“It was quite scary to watch what was happening, not knowing exactly where the cut was.” Because of the haste with which the medical worker and the coaching staff acted, I expected the worst,” commented ae_89.

After the match, great news came – fortunately, Sundqvist did not damage his Achilles, and the cut was somewhere higher. This means that the Swedish striker will return to the squad fairly quickly. A new serious injury could be a devastating blow for the striker, given that at the end of March 2024 he already suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. However, Oscar will be able to return to the lineup in the near future.
