World hockey legend Dominik Hasek met with Ukrainian hockey players. The meeting was part of the program for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The 57-year-old Czech goalkeeper, who has been called Dominator throughout his career, met in Prague with Igor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Czech Republic Yevhen Perebiinos, Manager. FHU Director Oleksandra Slatvitskaya and young hockey players. He became a forced immigrant after the Russian occupation.
Hasek immediately took an active civic stand in response to thoughtless aggression and was the first to call on the NHL leadership to freeze contracts with all Russian players. “Every athlete represents not only himself and his club, but also his country, values and actions. This is a fact. “If the NHL does not do this, it will be indirectly responsible for those killed in Ukraine,” he said.
During the meeting, Hasek recalled once again that he not only denied his words, but also advocated the exclusion of Russian athletes from all kinds of international sports events. Dominator, who nominated himself for the post of President of the Czech Hockey Federation, emphasized that he fully supports Ukraine, is ready to provide full assistance in the revival of our hockey in the post-war period, and will support young Ukrainian hockey players. So that Ukrainian players are not considered legionnaires in the Czech Extraliga, we will help them attend training camps and lobby for the initiative until we clear the debris from our land.
