The Danes lost to the Slovaks with a devastating score and did not reach the playoffs of the World Hockey Championship, the US team beat the Norwegians

The Slovakian national team defeated the Danish team in the final match of the group stage of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship held in Finland.

Group A meeting, held in Helsinki, ended with a score of 7:1. As part of the Slovak team, goals were scored by Tomas Tatar (10th and 20th minutes), Pavol Regenda (22, 60, both in the majority), Mislav Rosandic (33), Juraj Slafkovsky (39), Szymon Nemec (59). Joakim Blikfeld chalked up the Danish team’s only goal (48, in the majority).

4 best teams from both groups go to the ¼ finals.

The national teams of Slovakia and Denmark scored 12 points each, but because of this defeat, the Danes were in the table below the Slovaks, took 5th place and were left out of the playoffs. The first place in the group was taken by the Swiss team (20 points), the second place was taken by the German team (16). The third place was taken by the Canadians (12), they have yet to play their match of the 7th round in the group against the French, who have already lost their chances of reaching the playoffs.

In a parallel match in group B, the US team beat the Norwegians – 4: 2. The Americans were scored by Ryan Hartman (4), Matthew Baldy (8), Ben Myers (29) and Sean Farrell (60). The Norwegians have goals on account of Andreas Martinsen (23) and Daniel Rokset (42).

The Americans scored 13 points and took 4th place in the group, giving a ticket to the ¼ finals. The Norwegians took 7th place (5 points) and completed their performance at the tournament, but retained their place in the elite. Team Sweden leads the group.

Later on Tuesday in this group there will be a match between Finland and the Czech Republic. Both teams have already secured their place in the playoffs.

Derby day in the NHL. New York and Florida Wars, 7 goals for Toronto, success for San Jose

The NHL returned after the Christmas break and several derbies took place on the first day of play.

New York Islanders beat the Rangers with a score of 2:0 on their home ice, extending their streak to five and taking second place in their league behind Carolina.

Another battle between neighbors Florida and Tampa Bay ended 4:2 in favor of the Lightning. Both teams in the Atlantic Group are in the top 4.

Maple won the Canadian derby between Toronto and Ottawa 7:5, while forward Auston Matthews scored three points. That’s right, Toronto is still second to last in the East.

In the west, Calgary won its derby against Edmonton 3-2, but Oilers captain Connor McDavid scored in 12 straight games.

Among other results, we highlight San Jose’s victory over Vancouver 6:3 thanks to McClean Celebrini’s 20th goal of the season, as well as table leaders Colorado’s hard-fought victory over Vegas 6:5 in the penalty shootout.

The second day of competitions in the elite league of the U-20 World Youth Hockey Championship has ended.

After Slovakia’s victory against Germany in Group A, the host Americans took to the ice and defeated the Swiss team with a score of 2:1. The third goal of the tournament came from forward Will Zellers.

USA has two wins and first place in the group.

However, there was almost a sensation in group B. The Canadian team put the finishing touches on Latvia in overtime and won 2:1. It is interesting that Latvia unexpectedly beat Klenov a year ago but could not repeat this success.

For Canada, we highlight two points from forward Gavin McKenna, the likely first pick of the 2026 draft.

In another match, the Czech Republic defeated Denmark 7-2.

The second day of matches in the elite league of the U-20 World Youth Hockey Championship has started.

The Slovak team, which tried to score points in the match against Sweden yesterday, defeated the German team 4-1, and forward Tomas Hrenko also scored a hat-trick.
