Whatever the banal talk about the fact that the goalkeeper is half the team, and even more so in the playoffs, this thesis is once again confirmed. New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin He put on a great game with 37/39 saves against the Carolinas in Game 7 of the series to help the Rangers advance to the third round where the New Yorkers will face reigning champion Tampa.

The Hurricanes failed to extend their impressive home-winning streak (the Carolinas have never lost at home in the current playoffs prior to this meeting). But the infamous goalkeeper question didn’t allow the Hurricanes to claim victory in the decisive match. The main keeper of the hosts Antti Raanta injured and played only 36 minutes, after which the Russian had to go on the ice Petr Kochetkov. It cannot be said that the appearance of an inexperienced goalkeeper spoiled the game of Carolina: until then, the score was 2-0 in favor of Rangers, and Shesterkin’s confident play did not give the opponent a chance.

Carolina has conceded just 8 goals in the previous seven home games. For just one game seven – six and the key to getting the result was the start of the game. Man Fox and Chris Crider In the eighth minute of the first half and the second twenty minutes, he made the score 2:0 in favor of the Blue Shirts. ryan strome with the support of Artemy Panarin He scored the Rangers’ third goal and it was nearly impossible to make up for the Carolinas.

The Rangers’ victory was a source of great joy for the army of fans. About 500 meters from Madison Square Garden, where the team plays their home games, and the “Igor, Igor!” has become a brand.

“Shesterkin was great from start to finish on this streak and finished off with an exclamation point. His performance on Memorial Day was unforgettable as he kept the Hurricanes out until the third term. Late goals from former Ranger Tony Deangelo and Max Domi robbed him of a cracker’s chance, but that’s the point. Igor had an inspiring first term where Carolina hit 16 times and saved everything Antti Raanta couldn’t keep up with her colleague who claimed to be “Vezina”. — noted Shesterkin columnist LoHud Vince Mercogliano.

In the final of the East there will be a magnificent duel between Shesterkin and Andrey Vasilevsky. But for now, Rangers can be happy with the outcome and be proud that the number one task that could become a problem after Henrik Lundqvist’s departure is in safe hands.

💥💥💥 You won’t believe it, but only a few beat this game! Although it may seem very easy to everyone at first!
