New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallan noted the role of goaltender Igor Shesterkin in the NHL playoff victory against the Carolinas.

The Rangers beat the Carolinas 6-2 on the road on Monday in Game 7 of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Shesterkin saved 37 shots and was named the first star of the game.

— Shesterkin made several key saves in important moments of the game. He kept the score 2-0 in our favor in the first period,” the NHL website quoted Gallan as saying.

Shesterkin himself noted that two goals scored against the Hurricanes in the first period gave him confidence.

We scored two quick goals and that helped me a lot. Before the game, I was shaking a little, but when I went out on the ice, I tried to forget about everything and tried to focus on the puck, – said the goalkeeper.

The Rangers will face Tampa in the Eastern Conference Finals on June 1.
