Washington Capitals defender Dmitry Orlov, a Russian, said he was nervous before negotiations to extend the agreement with the club.

Orlov’s contract with Washington runs until 2023. In the season ended, the 30-year-old hockey player earned 35 (12 + 23) points in 76 matches.

– When you play for the club for 10 years and the last year of the contract remains, of course, you will involuntarily think about it and worry. But when the season starts, you will need to try to let go of this situation. When the general manager of Washington wants to hear something from me and the agent, then we will start negotiations, and then we will see,” the Match TV website quoted Orlov as saying.

The player also believes that Alexander Ovechkin will overtake Gordie Howe in the number of goals scored in the NHL next season. The 36-year-old Russian, with 780 goals, rounds out the top 3 in league history behind Howe (801) and Gretzky (894).

Ovechkin aims to break Gretzky’s record, signed a five-year contract with Washington to achieve this result. The main thing is that he stays healthy. I think next season he will get ahead of Howe, there will be another achievement. Everything will depend on him.

Until Gretzky two seasons minimum? Of course, you need to score 50 goals. God forbid that Alexander continues, we always try to give him a pass, not only because of the record, but also because he knows how to score, – added Orlov.
