Forward of the Russian national team and Omsk Avangard Arseniy Gritsyuk believes that Metallurg Magnitogorsk deservedly defeated his team in the second round of the Gagarin Cup last season.
Magnitogorsk beat Avangard 4-3 in the series.
“I don’t want to blame anyone. Everyone strives to win, and in this case, the opponent just turned out to be stronger in the playoffs. “Magnitogorsk” eventually reached the final and was close to winning the trophy. Of course, somewhere there were not enough Finnish guys who left us. We were left with four defenders, and in some moments there was no strength on the back line. Somewhere the attackers played incorrectly – they did not help the defense. Many factors can be added up and understand why we lost,” Gritsyuk said in an interview with RT.
In the 2020/21 season, Avangard, with Gritsyuk in the squad, won the Gagarin Cup.
