Zakharkin believes that Shesterkin is able to become a legend in the NHL
Well-known coach Igor Zakharkin congratulated the Russian New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin on winning the Vezina Trophy award, which is given to the best goaltender of the NHL regular season.
– Handing Shesterkin “Vezina” is a fair decision. Igor deserves this achievement with his whole life, his attitude to hockey and his teammates. Shesterkin’s contribution to the successful game of the Rangers is very high – this is noted by coaches, partners and everyone who knows him.
It is very difficult to say whether he can become an NHL legend, but there are all the prerequisites for this. Again, his attitude to hockey is very serious. I know him, he has high standards. We can only wish him to become an NHL legend,” Zakharkin is quoted by the “Championship”.
In the NHL regular season this season, Shesterkin played 53 matches in which his team scored 36 victories (spent 6 matches to zero) with a reliability coefficient of 2.07 and 93.5% of reflected shots.
The Rangers lost 2-4 to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup semi-finals. Shesterkin conceded 51 goals in 20 playoff games.
